When North London–born singer-songwriter dodie began work on her sophomore album Not For Lack Of Trying, she found herself searching for the thread that tied its intimate portraits together — reflections on love, heartbreak, comparison culture and mental health. The title became her anchor, capturing a period of striving for clarity amid personal challenges, including anxiety, loss and the approach of her 30th birthday. Known for her candid lyricism and delicate orchestral textures, dodie’s return single “I’M FINE!” distils this chapter’s unease and wit, marking her first release with Decca Records. Across the record, she explores boundaries, sexuality, breakups, and moments of joy — from the playful ode to her cat in “Darling, Angel, Baby” to the poignant nostalgia of “Tall Kids.”
Over the past decade, dodie has evolved from uploading ukulele songs on YouTube to becoming one of the most distinctive voices in modern British pop.
